Casey Hebbel
Making Room for Joy
Casey Hebbel is a proudly feminist director, choreographer, educator, and creator who makes work rooted in joy, play, collaboration, excellence, and a little bit of ridiculousness.
A musical-theatre artist at heart, Casey is drawn to musical comedy, physical storytelling, brilliant women, emerging artists, complicated characters, and the magical moments that remind us why we tell stories.
She is passionately organized, deeply collaborative, and endlessly curious about finding a new way in to a story. Her goal is simple: make fabulous work with fabulous artists who have fabulous hearts and always leave room for surprise.

Director | Choreographer
I like theatre that moves.
Sometimes that means choreography. Sometimes it means a ridiculous musical number, a perfectly timed joke, an unexpected piece of staging, or an actor taking a story somewhere no one expected it to go.
As a director and choreographer, I build work that is detailed without feeling precious, highly collaborative without losing clarity, and—whenever possible—absolutely fun.

The Work
A collection of musicals, plays, choreography, classrooms, collaborations, and experiments.
Every project has taught me something about storytelling, movement, collaboration, or the wonderfully strange humans who make theatre possible.
Going global. Eating pastel de nata. Making theatre.

A new chapter!
My family and I have relocated to Lisbon, Portugal, and I am officially expanding my theatre-making adventures across Europe (while remaining very available for work in the US).
I've been exploring the city, finding the theatre community, practicing my Portuguese, and doing extensive research into the important cultural matter of pastel de nata.
If you're looking for a director, choreographer, educator, collaborator, or enthusiastic musical-theatre human on either side of the Atlantic, let's talk.
